The secret of change is to focus everything on creating what you can in the present, and letting yourself slip out of the past and the future.
How will we actually change?
I am not talking about the sort of change that lasts for just a few months and then we go back to the same stuff we usually used to do. No, I am talking about that everlasting change that allows us to move onward with our lives and leave our old techniques behind. This is true change, change that will last forever. The secret is to commit everything you have in your life to building what you can in the present moment.
The past will hold you down and the future will show you the greatest lie and mirage of a place where it all turns out. Both these imaginary places are stupendously threatening because they keep us from being in action in the moment. Even though we can go there in our heads, we have to avoid living in these places at all costs.
Change will not be simple. Think about how many of us try and make great changes the on the first of the year...January 1. Statistically nearly half of people who make New Years Resolutions fail by mid February. That disconnect is huge. So there must really be something incredibly broken with that system.
So what can we do?
Focus on one thing, every single day, to make yourself a tiny bit better than the day before and do that for as long as you potentially can. Absolutely do not get obsessed over the quantum leap where everything changes all at one single point in time - it is a great lie. Focus on the daily tasks you can perform and over time you will change more than you could truly ever imagine.
Start the journey of change now, one step at a time.
Don't wait.
